    Hey all-

I have a silly basic question. What do y’all consider to be day one after hatching when counting days toward fledging? The Sialis site calls day one the day after hatching & the Cornell site (most sites I’ve read) call day one the day of hatching.

BTW, great news! All six of my babies fledged successfully yesterday (not MY babies, but you know what I mean). That would’ve been day 18 or 19 according to when the count starts (except for the runt, who hatched on the 2nd day). Getting the box ready to go again!

    Thanks for all your insight.

I can’t remember what I do now!! I don’t think it matters…just be consistent. I think the day I see babies I count as day one.

I count hatch day as day one but it really doesn’t matter unless somebody tries to fledge early. That is the time when one day is important.

Now I’m thinking that I count the next day as day one. I probably switch back and forth without knowing it.

I count the day after they hatch as day one. They are one day old the day after they hatch, not the day they hatch.

Thanks y’all. Last year, I counted day one on hatch day & this year, I counted it on day after hatching. I guess the key is to keep track, be consistent, & make sure there is no early fledging, etc. I have truly learned so much from y’all. Thank you!
