Well, so far my bluebird couple have 3 eggs in the house. They are so cute. The male bluebird is extremely attentive to mama. When I went outside this morning. Mama and papa were sitting side by side on the edge of my rain gutter. Mama flew across the yard and went inside the birdhouse. After a few minutes, papa started calling out. Mama stuck her head out of the hole briefly and then went back inside. They repeated this routine several times. Eventually, papa got impatient and flew down to the house. He landed at the hole and stuck his head in as though to check on her. He flew back to the roof and waited for her. About 10 minutes later, mama blue finally emerged and they flew together to my pool fence. Before I knew it papa had called the babies over. Mama, papa and 3 of the babies just chilled on the fence for a while and then flew away. I like how this couple is nearly always together.

They are very sweet. Four eggs now. I had to poke around their house a little bit this evening to put a little Sevin dust under the nest. The mites have been awful. I worry about putting chemicals in there, but I am hoping the benefits outweigh any risks to the babies. Mama blue sat on the corner of the spouting again and watched me. As soon as I left, she and papa took turns checking out the nest. I hope I didn’t freak them out too much.

Five eggs today, and mama has spent most of her day in the house. She did come out to go to the bird bath for a drink. That’s how I managed to peek in and see the fifth egg. It is in the 90’s here today, so it’s no wonder she needed some air and a drink!
