Well, right on the mark my four bluebirds are hatching this morning. I saw mama and papa flying around the box and in and our of box, just like humans waiting for newborns. Papa blue has been remarkable – defending the nestbox every time any other birds gets near it. I believe it is a fairly young male, being one of a clutch that hatched about 2 years ago. This is the very earliest hatch I have EVER had, – mama keeping the eggs warm through at least two freezing temps. Have just began to put out a few mealworms for mama & papa this past week, as still have the white-crowned sparrows around – the juncos are pretty much gone (can’t afford to feed them ALL). Anyway, it’s remarkable at the resilience these birds have & what a pleasure to help them out!
Good luck to everyone else on this new season!
