My nestbox remains empty. Two weeks ago I eliminated a house sparrow that kept going in the box whenever the bluebirds tried to inspect it. The bluebirds came back a few days later checked out the box then left. Every now and then a lone male bluebird shows up. I keep hoping he bring a female along with him. For the past 8 or 9 years I’ve had bluebirds every year this time of year. This year they seem to show very little interest. Usually in previous years after inspecting my box they’d hang around then move in and build a nest. Every now and then I’ll see a pair feeding in the field within 40 or 50 yards of my nestbox but they show no interest in it. I’m alittle baffled. I’m guessing they have decided to nest elsewhere or they’re not ready. I’ve checked the nestbox for bees, wasps, spiders, earwigs, and ants, etc. It remains clean, no bugs. Also been keeping an out for anymore H. Sparrows but so far there’s been none. Any ideas? I’m hoping maybe I’ll get a 2nd brood somehow if not a 1st brood.
