Well, my blues are finally getting started on their nest – we had some nice weather but then had a cold spell, but supposed to warm up again this week, so maybe they will finish.

BUT, of course the HOSP are at it again. I have already trapped/disposed of three, and there is another pair which have a nest & two eggs. I am watching very carefully their box but want my blues to get a chance to build theirs so I will wait a day or so before I trap the HOSP. I find not getting in too big a hurry on the HOSP is usually a good thing, because they are keeping busy with their own nest/eggs instead of trying to claim the blues’ box again. Of course, I will not let the HOSP eggs hatch and will probably set the trap in a day or two. Sounds like the season is getting started pretty well here on this forum – good luck to everyone!

Hi Carol. So glad your Blues are building. I am hoping to see an egg in one of the nests this week.
Good luck with eliminating those nasty HOSPS. I hope they never find my boxes.

Well, to my surprise when I checked the blues box today I found two blue eggs – I guess I hadn’t checked it on Sunday and was gone most all day today – found them around 4 pm tonight. They must have finished the nest pretty quick – and it looks like this was a fact, as the nest was not all that full of nest material but did have a nice cup. I did set the hosp trap around this same time hoping to catch one of them later today, just before evening. P.S. No, you don’t want those HOSP to show up at your place – they are a great pest and great threat.

Carol, that-is wonderful news. My nests are sparse too, but perfectly cupped. They are also wet after our storm last night. Of course it is still cold up here we had snow today, but it is to warm up by Thursday, and hopefully they will dry out.

The nest mine just fledged from was fairly sparse as well but did the trick.

Good to hear from you all about a sparse nest – had 3 eggs as of yesterday and I have been watching mama this morning and I believe she is laying another egg today.

Lisa and Carol, good to hear about the fledge and the new eggs. Like you Carol, I didn’t check the box yesterday and today there are 2 blue eggs in the nest. Have to find the wren guard and sun shade now. :hoppingblue:

Good to know I am not the only one with sparse nests.
