Hi all- I have a friend that her female bluebird builds a nest, lays 3 eggs, & then eats them. I think this has happened twice. She knows it’s happening because she has a nestcam. I asked her if she was sure the laying & eating female were the same. She’s absolutely sure. The only other thing I wondered was if the female felt the need for calcium.

Has anyone ever heard of this? She is very distraught over this, so I told her I would ask my fellow bluebird experts. Please help if you can!

Never in my life have I heard this! Need for calcium is possible I guess, but it still sounds weird. I don’t believe there is anything like this on our bible website http://www.sialis.org. I know they eat the shells after babies are born, but before ????????

This is bizarre. I have never heard of this and I thought I had heard everything. Wow.
