Bluebird Numbers (all nests) update

I thought that I would share some information that I have collected from our nesting posts for this year. I will update it for each brood (i.e. First, Second and Third, etc.). These are overall totals from the data that you have provided on your nesting’s.

To date (4/30/2021:

Number of Eggs: 36 reported
Number Hatched: 27 reported so far

David, I’m wondering if you are still keeping track of the blues eggs and fledglings?

As we are winding down on 2021 bluebird season…………I’m would like to know how we did on adding blues to the sky.

Here are my totals: Backyard blues had 3 broods. 1st brood 4 eggs – 2 fledged. 2nd brood 6 eggs – 3 fledged. 3rd brood 5 eggs – 5 fledging tomorrow. Total of 10

Frontyard blues had 2 broods. 1st brood 5 eggs – 5 fledged. 2nd brood 5 eggs – 5 fledged. Total of 10.

My grand total is 20. Others please post your totals. Thanks!

Mine is: 1st nesting 5 eggs, 5 hatched & fledged – 2nd nesting 4 eggs, 4 hatched and fledged –
3rd nesting 5 eggs, 5 hatched and all will likely fledge in about a week (doing well) – 14 total, all in my back yard.

With only 4 people reporting……………baby blues add up to 48. I’m sure this number will grow a lot, David’s April 30th report said 42 had hatched. We’ve had a lot going on since April.

SECOND BROOD

For Totals so far, we have 21 nestings, 96 eggs laid, 87 hatched, and 61 new bluebirds in the air. We are missing reports from quite a few but as I mentioned elsewhere my internet has been down for more than a month and I am trying to catch up on posts to get additional data.

Nice to have you back David. Thanks for updating the tally. I think most people have had a really good year with their blues. Sorry to see it wrapping up, they have been very entertaining for the past 5 months. Mine have gone missing since August 20th.

I STILL have babies!!! My pair started their 4th Brood in the beginning of August. Four babies are about 2 days away from fledging. This is the latest I have ever had EABL’s nesting and it’s rare to have a 4th brood and so late in Western PA. Amazing season, although the first brood may not count as all 5 eggs never hatched. I am shocked she laid again for a 4th brood! This is one busy pair.
