We have had and will have temps in the upper 90’s this past week and also NO rain whatsoever- Monday is due to drop down some. I do have a heat shield on my birdhouse where 4 babies are waiting to “explore the world”, but I am still concerned, although can’t cannot do anything more. The house does not have any shade, but I have a very large top shield with large overhangs and good ventilation and shields on south and west also. Mother Nature, please be nice and let these babies survive the heat.

I have been trying for several years to find a good spot with some shade for these houses, but have not come up with anything. Either the trees are too close to my home or other other obstacles. Maybe I’ll come up with something eventually.

We hit 112 yesterday. 107 the day before. And 108 is predicted for today. I was TOTALLY unprepared and tried to provide shade, but I’m expecting that yesterday did them in. That won’t happen next year! Judging by what I’ve read here, I have my work cut out.

Judi, wow – that is some heat! Let’s think positive and believe they (egg or babies) made it. But sometimes the lessons we learn are a true asset, and we know what to do in the future. Good luck. By the way the four babies in my 2nd nest are mostly in there still – I believe maybe one fledged today (tomorrow is the due date) because we saw parents taking worms up into a large tree instead of to the nestbox. Will wait until maybe Wednesday to check inside, as I have several things going on tomorrow and don’t want to scare one into fledging without mama and papa being there.

Judi, I do hope the babies survived the heat.
