I guess your idea is the best regarding snake protection, a long baffle from the ground up. The netting method works better for tall poles not for bluebird height boxes.
You already were on the right track. But I’ll give you some photos and screen shots of conversations as soon as I can figure out how to get them on here.

Thanks Tammy. For the photos, are you using a pc or a cellphone/iPad?

I find that the “imjur” app on a pc is the easiest way to get my photos on the forum. I is almost like photobucket.
