I was so excited this morning to hear a BB singing while I was sitting outside. Mr. BB showed up and went right to one of my BB boxes and sang his song. Before long Mrs. BB showed up. She sat on the clothes pole and caught bugs while Mr. sang his song. They went and came back a couple times and Mr. went in the box time after time singing while he was in there, but she never entered the box. This went on for over an hour, then they both disappeared. Mrs. never once went in the house. I guess it did not suit her. It has been over three hours without them returning so I guess that means they will not be returning
Connie (PA)May 5, 2018 at 4:44 pm #6322I’m sorry, Connie, but remember it is still so early in the season. Lots of “baseball” yet to be played. You will have a happy nesting pair, before you know it!

May 6, 2018 at 8:38 am #6329Thanks for the encouragement Randy. I saw a male BB, not sure if it was the same one sitting on the top of the box about 5 hours after the first pair left. I actually thought the first pair was returning but during the evening I saw no activity and nothing yet this morning. Have to be happy that I have Orioles and Hummingbirds to keep me entertained for the time being. I also saw a wren come out of the box and a Chickadee chased it off. I checked the box but there was nothing in it.
Connie (PA)May 6, 2018 at 8:44 am #6330I hope you are right Tammy, but so far this morning I see no activity. Boo Hoo.
Connie (PA)May 6, 2018 at 3:11 pm #6332I have a nest with 5 babies but my daughter who lives near me has had a bluebird pair coming to her nestbox, disappearing, showing up again and disappearing again. Just today she said that the pair are defending a box. So…hopefully that happens to you.

May 10, 2018 at 1:41 pm #6345Congrats Tammy on the 5 BB babies and the encouragement of my BB’s returning, but I have not seen a single BB feather since that day. I cannot say I am not disappointed but the last two years since I got hooked by BB’s they showed up later in May, so I am not giving up hope. I am just overly excited to see them again.
My congrats to your daughter also.
Connie (PA)May 10, 2018 at 10:18 pm #6354Hang in there Connie, I was about to give up also and I left town for a few days and behold – one blue eggs when I got back on Monday, and now I have four. Good luck!
May 11, 2018 at 3:10 pm #6358Carol, I hope I am as lucky as you are. Congrats on your new babies to arrive. Keep us informed on how things are going.
Connie (PA)May 11, 2018 at 10:15 pm #6368I remember last year how miserable I was watching the most gorgeous male try to get his mate! He was pitiful standing on that box wagging worms for what seemed liked weeks! She finally took a liking to him and we had 5 great nestings, so much that a neighbor came over to ask where all of the beautiful bluebirds were coming from!
May 27, 2018 at 9:24 pm #6478Randy I have to write to let you know you were right about it being early in the season and lots of baseballs to play yet. Yesterday I noticed a pair of BB’s at my front yard bluebird box then later they were at the back yard box. They disappeared for a while but he came back a few times, then nothing again till today, and I do believe the nest building has started. The only strange thing I notice is he seems to be in and out of the box time after time, more really than she is. It is interesting to watch and I am beyond thrilled.
Thanks everyone that told me to hang in there. It is paying off royally.
Connie (PA)May 28, 2018 at 8:30 am #6479Very happy to hear, Connie!! I am so glad that you have genuine interest from the pair! It has been a strange season, thus far, but things are certainly looking up. Keep us informed, and tell your papa blue to stop getting in the way of mama’s nest building! :)
