Hi Connie! All 5 hatched! Saw them first on Saturday and they looked a day or too old. Saturday was chilly and rainy and I worried about them all day but somehow they made it because parents are still going in and out.
That is great news Lisa. So glad they survived the last bout of less than desirable weather.
I have a pair that has only staked out their territory. The female is strange, she is going from window to window chirping. I covered the first one I saw her at, but she had found the rest of the ones in the house. Hopefully she will settle down when she mates, but only time will tell.
Connie (PA)Congrats, Lisa, on your first hatch of the season. My blues are here and have pretty much claimed their box but no nesting materials as of yet. We actually had two freezes this past weekend and first of this week but warmed up to about 70 degrees today. I have a HOSP nest in one of my 4 boxes and will be setting the trap tomorrow – have already disposed of two HOSP.
I finally have the beginning of a nest. Went out to check the box as I was grilling on the deck and spooked the female from the box. Inside was a circle of grass clippings on the floor where she was sitting.
