I’ve been successful with attracting bluebirds to my nest boxes for ten years or more but this year is a little different. The bluebirds are back and they made a nest in box #2 thus far there are no eggs after about three weeks time. The bluebirds are still here and at the mealworm feeder but box 1 and 3 are empty and the nest in box #2 remains eggless. Perhaps found another nest box in the area?

They could have found another box or they could have claimed this box for a future brood. Are they eating worms while at your feeder or carrying them away?

They are eating at my feeder (in between me chasing the grey squirrel away) and feeding on insects from the telephone wires. So I guess its best to leave the “new” nest as they may return for brood #2? Thanks

Craig, sounds very much like my situation (see my new post “My blues nesting in neighbor’s tree”) only my blues were here all winter and I am almost sure they are nesting in a next door neighbor’s tree cavity as they have no nest in my yard. Earlier in the season they had claimed one box I thought, as they were at it a lot. But the HOSP came along and I trapped several different males at this box. I have four different boxes, so it is not like there was not an empty box available!
