BB laid her first egg this morning. I read that they usually lay an egg then they don’t come around the box for the rest of the day. I’m guessing this isn’t always the case cause this one has been in there a couple times today, for about 5 minutes or so each time. The one time I swore I heard some knocking around or something going on inside, but I looked after and the egg was fine. Maybe this is a first time mother? I read that younger birds take longer to pick a box and build a nest. This was the case for both with these two. They were really finicky picking a box and took a little over a week to build nest. Pretty cool though.
Blues almost always lay one egg each day until their clutch is done, 4-5 eggs usually. My pair this year started very early and the eggs (and then babies) made it through two different freezing temps.
I bet yours will get on target today. They are now in the trees learning how to survive and hunt.
Has she laid another egg? I’m on pins and needles wondering. Ours are nesting somewhere else this round, so I’m definitely living vicariously thru all of you!!
Aww, Julie, are you feeling sad? I’m wishing for mine to return to my home garden box too, and at the community garden where we always have a pair, they didn’t nest either. It’s been a barren spring so far!
