Hello everyone! I hope everyone is having a great year of successful Bluebird broods.
I haven’t been on here much, between work and a 9 month old grandson I’ve been busy!😊
I’ve been very fortunate to have Bluebirds nest here for five years in a row now. We’ve had 2 successful broods each year except for one when I had my first brood of Tree Swallows. That year we had one brood of Bluebirds.
This year started a few weeks earlier than others. We had five babies the first brood and 4 the second which fledged 10 days ago.
I’m thrilled to say that it looks like it might be our first year of 3 broods!!! Mommy started building another nest yesterday at a rapid pace. Needless to say I’m so excited to hopefully find an egg soon.
Good luck to all, I’m going to catch up on your stories soon.July 14, 2017 at 5:34 am #5584Congratulations! It sounds like you’ve had a very successful year. Maybe your little grandson will become a future “bluebirder.” Good luck with that last nest. :)

July 21, 2017 at 10:57 pm #5747Fourth brood! Sadly lost all of first brood so they are making up for lost time. Dangerously late in the year as far as heat goes but 4 eggs this morning looking gorgeous and shiny and unheard of weather in the 80’s for the 10 day forecast in South Alabama!Trying not to get my hopes up.
July 22, 2017 at 9:20 am #5750We have been in the nineties here in south central PA for a week. I have one of those “weather stations” that tells me the outdoor temperature. Right now, at 9:17 a.m., it is already 94 degrees in the sun. Heat indexes have been over 100 each day. Each evening, when I see the parents outside of the house, I go down for a peek. To be honest, I always prepare to see the worst, but I open the box and the little heads are waving in there! They are only six days from hatch, so I know we still have a long way to go. Temperatures are supposed to come down into the 80’s next week. I hope so.

July 22, 2017 at 9:46 pm #5754Lisa and Susan, I am so rooting for you and your blues; it cannot be any fun for them in all of that heat. I wish I could send you both some shade. :(

Bedford, New HampshireJuly 22, 2017 at 10:07 pm #5755Thanks for the positive thoughts. So far, so good. I guess I will take the wren guard off tomorrow. (babies 7 days old). It’s a tough call. The guard does shade the front of the house, but I also want to make it easier for mama and papa to do their work.
