My singleton female is still around and coming for mealworms. However, when I went to check the box a little while ago, I found the nest had been disturbed. Rather than the tightly woven sides, it’s become loose dried grass with no particular cup. When I pushed aside the preponderance of the grass, I found the four eggs pretty much at the bottom of the box with not much grass between them and the nest floor.

Anyone have an idea of what might have happened ? Is there anything I should be doing. Because I have no TRES and no male, I feel as if this nest is very vulnerable.

      TIA. I’m at a loss.

It sounds like somebody else is trying to nest in there or she buried them for some unknown reason. That’s pretty much all I have right now. Have you seen her go in the box lately?

I haven’t. But as I was pulling out of my garage t leave I saw a bird n top of the Peterson house. I was running late and could.run back in to get my binos. Fingers crossed, that it wasn’t a HOSP. Will report in the morning. I definitely have never seen a nest messed up the way this one was.

Isn’t looking good for those eggs. The momma might have been wooed by another male and gave up on those eggs. Let us know if you see her.
