After our “incident” with the bear last month destroying our babies, our couple made a nest in a new box on our property, Approximately May 7th they started building a nest. For weeks we have witnessed them going in and out of the box, but we had not checked it for eggs. We have had extremely unseasonable cold rainy weather of late. Yesterday we noticed a house wren in the box picking out the nesting material. Husband ran to the box to chase it away and finally opened the box to check for eggs…..there was nothing!!!! Very little material on the ground and no eggs so he might have just “showed” up since we had not heard his ANNOYING call either!! Could the weather have delayed the egg laying or was it too soon for eggs since the last family would have only been weeks old??? Male is actively visiting the box and the female has been around but not as much as the male. I hear him calling often…..

Thoughts on eggs? and suggestions of getting the wren OUT OF THE YARD?????

It wasn’t too soon for eggs but there is no way to tell if she laid any thanks to the HOWR.

Your female could have decided that this box wasn’t the place for her and he’s trying to attract someone who agrees with his choice.

In any case, getting rid of a HOWR is nearly impossible for most people. It’s a sad, sad thing.
