I have had a pair BB’s all winter long, a first for me as far as I know, and they have been checking out the front box for weeks going in and out often and defending it last week against a starling and a Carolina Wren. Well this past Thursday I saw mama taking in nest building material, but only saw her in there today. It has turned cold again here, below freezing so maybe that has something to do with the halt to the nest construction.
I also have an extra male, I think one of the off spring of this pair from last year. I hope he finds a mate and takes up residence in my second box.
      Happy Blue Birding Everyone,

Connie, good news – yes, maybe Spring weather is here, or very close. I’m sure glad I have them to watch, feed and just enjoy, with all the happenings going on now.

Wet and cold weather does have an impact on “home-building” of all types. They will return in as it dries out. Good luck this season.

Thanks David. She returned to her constructing yesterday. Today it is raining, so have only seen them at the feeder area.
Good luck to you too this season.

Carol, I am glad they are around too. Yesterday Mama was on top of her box flapping her wings like crazy, then she would fly and then return. All of a sudden I see this flash outside my kitchen window and there was a starling and her and Papa in a tussle, looked up in the apple tree and could see 4 more starlings so I went out and made some strange sounds and they headed off to the west, then things settled down. Gotta keep a sharp eye out all the time.

              Connie,
Great to hear your blues are building a nest also! I heard we are suppose to have a warmer than usual Spring. I’m hoping it’s true. It would really benefit the bluebirds as well as other nesting bird species.
