I’ve noticed later in the day before sunset (especially the male blue) makes some weird flight patterns. He will fly out from where he’s perching hover for a sec then fly back to same spot. Or he’ll go to fly to a big tree he frequents but he’ll go wide left of it then at last second hover, then make a hard right to the branch instead of flying directly to it. And just overall more hyper than normal, flying from branch to branch. I can’t find anything about the behavior. I thought I read a while back that they do that to distract when young birds are fledging but they still have a few days for that. Was just curious.

Maybe he is telling mama (and the juveniles) to get back on the nest & trees for the evening if she is incubating eggs –
Who knows – I’m still trying to understand them after about 14 years! Are you sure they have not fledged? Mine fledged about 2 days early during this heat spell. Like it that you are keeping track of them – good luck!

Yea I dunno what it’s all about. There are 4 in the box and they are definitely still in there, I hear ‘em. He’s doing a lot of feeding too, more than her. They haven’t really poked their heads out yet. My guess is they will fledge Wednesday, that will be 17 days. What they did last time and the weather has been pretty consistent. See if they can go for a third brood.
