What a surprise! After 22 days the bluebird eggs hatched this morning! All but one egg (I will check it tomorrow). The one egg the parents removed yesterday. I’m presuming the chick either died inside the shell or the egg itself was infertile. I’m so stoked right now! So happy I waited. I have never witnessed such a long incubation with the bluebirds in the years I have been hosting them. Has anyone else had this happen? It took 3 weeks instead of the normal 2 week period. My guess is the unseasonably cold weather could have delayed the hatching process. Not complaining here just so great to see those little featherless wiggly bodies in the nest. Even my 6-year-old nephew is excited. I got him started last year doing nest box monitor checks with me. I hope to make him a future bluebirder!
