It’s a perfectly beautiful day, 80 degrees with a cool breeze. And I hear bluebirds in the maple tree by my open patio door. They fledged this morning and I watched with delight as parents flew on either side offering their support as the last fledgling flew to safety.
If there is a more joyous sound than that of bluebird parents calling to their fledglings, this would be the first I am hearing of it. Congratulations, Cari!! I am so happy for you!
Oh Cari, what an exciting thing to witness. I did see one of my babies fledge the first year I had blues, but we were leaving for our camp for a picnic which I was hosting so never saw anything except one baby fly out and land on the side of our house. Last year Mama disappeared and Papa too when the two that were left were about to fledge, so all was lost. I am hoping this year I get to witness exactly what you have today.

fun! A couple of weeks ago my husband and I were looking out the sliding glass door and I said to him, “They should be fledgling any moment now” and as soon as I said that a bluebird baby poked his head out of the hole and made the jump. We were shocked at the perfect timing. It couldn’t have been more than 5 seconds that passed between the time I said that and the baby jumped.
