I had two pair nesting in two boxes, one across my pond and the other in my back yard. Both boxes had two nestings of 5 eggs each and all of them hatched and fledged so 10 from each box (20 total). However I am unable to monitor the box across the pond as well so I only believe they all hatched and fledged because when I checked the house there were no unhatched eggs or babies in there after each fledging. I do believe one of the fledglings from my back yard house may have been eaten by a cat. I was out of town but when I got home there were some feathers and remains on my patio unfortunately. I’ve been seeing a lot of the babies from both hatchings from my backyard box hanging around on the fences drop hunting. I don’t feed mealworms because I am out of town too much. Don’t want them to be dependent then me gone for days at a time.

How sad Carol! It’s too bad Dad didn’t stay with them or maybe something happened to him too. I’ve had so many heartbreakers over the years it’s hard to even talk about them. I am so glad this year is going well although I think one of the fledglings from my first nest got eaten by a cat. I was out of town but it looked like it’s remains on the ground about 20 feet from the box. I’ve seen the other four however so I know they made it.

I lost a female one year and she was incubating eggs. The male was in and out of the box looking for her so I left them in there as we were headed out of town for 10 days. When I got back he had found another female and they had started nesting in one of my other boxes so I was happy and sad at the same time. I removed the 1st female’s nest. I think a racoon got to her but not sure. Bluebird life moves on.

Sorry about this. I had been able to edit when I saw that the watermark was still there in spite of my buying a monthly plan but this time it wouldn’t let me. Is there any way to delete posts once they are up but outside of the edit time?

Yes I have two baffles a stove pipe and a cone. I never had snake netting because I thought it was safe but last year I learned that snakes can get around those. I have netting that is bunched up at the b0ttom to prevent snakes from getting around the baffles.
