HOSP start scouting for nestboxes early in the winter months here in NW Ohio. I can’t remember when exactly but I’d say the end of January or maybe into Feb. Of course they don’t start building then. A Van Ert in-box trap works great. Why didn’t your homemade traps work to catch the first HOSP?
