Two baby birds landed in my yard today chirping and stayed for over an hour. I didn’t see any adult birds come to them. They can fly but I can see that they are very young. They are around the bluebird house trying to get the adult bluebirds to feed them. I can see them following the bluebird parents. The bluebird parents are still taking food to the bluebird house. All day this has been going on. the abandon baby birds do not have any blue on their wings and the bluebird parents flew over them many times today and ignored them. They are making a lot of noise chirping. I feel something horrible has happened to the parents but I see no way that I can help. When they fly they flap their little wings a lot and barely make it to the destination.

How old are your babies that are still in the nest? Could it be babies from that nest that have fledged but there are still a couple of babies left? It’s not normal for babies from a different nesting couple to show up because bluebirds are so very territorial. I’m not sure how they even got to this area.
They beg for food ALL the time even if they have just eaten when they have fledged. I’m guessing that is what you are seeing. They follow the parents around and beg continuously.
If there’s something else going on, there’s not much you can do. You could put out mealworms but that age of bluebirds will beg for food when mealworms are right in front of them.
I’m hoping that what you are assuming is happening isn’t really the case. Sorry. I know that doesn’t help much.

This is the first nest this year. They are a very light brownish color. No parents showed up to feed them yesterday. One baby bird landed in my flower pot flapping its wings chirping like it was saying here I am. I don’t see a happy ending but I do thank you very much for your thoughts. I do have mealworms out but they did not find them. They are waiting for the parents to feed them.

The babies in the bb house are 12 or 14 days old I left that out. Ive had a shoulder injury this year that has kept me from going on a daily basis. The baby birds followed the bluebird parents to the bluebird house and then just kinda fell to the ground because they couldn’t grasp onto the house. It helps when things go wrong just to have someone else’s thoughts.
Hopefully the baby bb’s will fledge within 3 or 4 days now and have a happy life.

I have a new theory about the abandon baby birds. I heard them across my yard this morning but haven’t seen them. If something happened to one parent maybe the other parent was slow getting around to feeding all of them. Hopefully a miracle happens today and I’m going to hold onto that thought.

My guess is just what you said. The parent or parents are feeding them you just aren’t seeing it.
I do the same….try to just assume the best and not think about what could be happening. It helps emotionally to do that. I would be a basket case if I didn’t do that!

Thank you for the support. I haven’t heard or seen them since this morning but I ran errands today. Happy note Both my male and female bb’s were in the birdbath just now and are still feeding the babies in the bb house. Just 3 or 4 more days to go and they will fledge. Thank you again.
