My batch of four…1 hatched 2 days ago, 2 yesterday, and I thought they were all out but a photo today reveals an unhatched egg. When to remove it? Sialis says 72 hours but their hatching has been spread out more than usual…
My fledglings are so cute! Trying to peek at the new babies! But they can’t figure out how to get past the snake guard and wren guard. So they are sitting on the snake guard and sparrow spooker!
Thanks Gin! I figured I would just leave it. Before I had a box I could monitor it was common to find an unhatched egg left behind. Now I’m an obsessed nervous nelly.
Lisa, do this another couple of decades and you won’t worry so much. I promise. I actually took my boxes “off the real estate market” this year because I didn’t have time for the wren issue.

Atlanta, GAGin, it was so easy before I had boxes I could monitor. It all started by accident when I found a cute bird house that I hung as a decoration. The blues took it over and fledged many for several years until a snake came along and turned me into a nervous wreck. Now it’s poles, Kreuger traps, monitoring, stress, stress, and more stress. LOL. I yearn for the good old days!
And after 15 years in my house I found a huge raccoon on my screened in deck last night. Never ever had a raccoon here. It’s always something!!
Raccoons! They are literally everywhere. Everywhere. People who don’t think they have them are…wrong. Just ask the raccoons. One more thing about them. Some people think raccoons can’t jump. They can.
