The bluebirds are finally showing themselves. I was able to check the box today, and the nest has 4 eggs. This is definitely a new pair for me. They’re alternately skittish and aggressive, but I’m sure we’ll find our rhythm as they get to know me. The world feels right when there are bluebirds in the front yard!
May 22, 2022 at 10:29 pm #24472Julie that’s great news about the eggs!! And I totally agree with you about the world feels right when the bluebirds are around. I have them in my side yard, the nest box faces an open field which is kept mowed. I love watching them build their nest and raise their young each year. It helps take one’s mind off of all the negative stuff going on in the world…that song by Bill Withers “Lovely Day” is a good song to listen to. I recommend it!

May 23, 2022 at 7:12 pm #24487Julie, this line resonated with me too: The world feels right when there are bluebirds in the front yard!
May 23, 2022 at 9:00 pm #24490Amen, Amen – world seems brighter when the bluebirds are around – mine just happen to be in my back yard which is almost 2 acres – several trees for them to perch on. They come up on my attached back deck to my mealworm cage which sits on the top rail – I am able to watch them from just about 6-8 feet from inside my house. HAPPY, HAPPY!
May 23, 2022 at 10:18 pm #24495Carol, that sounds like a dream!!!! Being able to watch all the action at the mealworm feeder sounds so fun. That would be ideal. I love when you share stories about the babies. Your yard sounds like a little bit of bluebird heaven…My husband just said I was really smiling while typing—I told him I was imagining your bluebird patch!

You’re very welcome! It’s one of my favorite tunes! Congrats on catching that pesky house sparrow too!

May 25, 2022 at 8:42 am #24937Julia, my bluebird setup is amazing in that they have some trees for perching, fence to perch on (BUT NO BOX THERE), lots of open space in that two acres – really ideal. And my favorite is that I can watch them all the action from inside my kitchen window.
May 25, 2022 at 9:24 am #24944It sounds so beautiful, Carol. I love that you can see them from the kitchen window. We spend so much time there, it’s important to have a great view. Yours sounds wonderful!! Enjoy!! My kitchen window view is the backyard feeders. Right now the woodpeckers are going through suet like crazy. The timing of visits makes me certain they’re feeding babies. Love this time of year!
