Well, my 5 white eggs turned into bluebirds which fledged yesterday I believe. I waited for sure an extra day because I didn’t want to open the box and have any fly out on their own. We have cleaned out their box which was not messy at all and put it back up hopefully for another nesting, although I have 3 other boxes in my backyard (which is about one acre or more) for their choosing. This just fledged box is the closest to our home and outside deck so I am hoping they choose it again. I have spotted some of the new fledglings but they usually hang out in some big trees around our home so I don’t get good looks at them. I started out this season thinking I was not going to have ANY BB nestings because they were a new pair and not acting like my others. I am a very pleased and happy gal.

Good news on the new fledglings, Carol. Were these the ones from the white eggs?

Yes – 5 white eggs turned into 5 baby blues! I have been taking out wren nestings now – they have been using a box at the very back of our yard – whish the bluebird pair would start another nest in their old box close to our home but nothing so far.

Good news the white eggs hatched and fledged. I hope the pair stay around and have more broods. Love the white eggs. Did you ever get them to eat your live mealworms? My bluebird pair in the front box like the live mealworms, but I have a backyard pair that are not interested. Maybe after their eggs hatch they will try them.

On another note…..I had tree swallow eggs hatch yesterday. Took a quick phone picture and could see one egg unhatched. Picture showed the egg was incapsulated with half of a shell from one that had already hatched. I knew I had to get that off or the bird could not hatch. I carefully removed it and put the egg back in the nest. I don’t know yet if it hatched, today was cold and rainy. I did not want to disturb them, I hope to check tomorrow.
