Super happy to find this bluebird Chatter is still up and running. I looked around January and could not find it. I was sad and thought it was done. I’ve been wondering what was going on with all the regular posters. Today I googled a bluebird question and this popped up. It’s my lucky day. Hello to everyone!!!

I have one set of bluebirds so far. Mama blue started incubating 4 eggs…..about 4 days later a 5Th egg showed up. I’ve never had that happen before. They are due to hatch this Friday. Worried about freezing temps tonight and tomorrow night, 30 & 29 degrees. I put an insulated wrap around 3 sides of the bluebird box. Also a bunch of wool socks strapped up under the bottom of the box. That’s the best I can do.

I believe this is a different pair from last year. They hangout in different places and mama blue seems to be out of the box a lot. Maybe she is a young mama. Hoping for the best.

Good news ….1 of the five eggs hatched today. Hope the others are hatched in the next 24 hours. It’s a day later than I had calculated, but it had been cold here. I still have 3 sides of the box covered with insulated and wool socks on the underside. Expecting five more freezing nights in a row. Brrrr.

        Happy Birding,

Well……it’s 24 hours later and still only 1 hatchling. Now I’m thinking maybe the others will not hatch. Time will tell. I’m feeding extra live mealworms 3X a day because there are not many bugs out, it’s too cold here. The forecast is not looking good either.
