“Old Home Week” here in NH. Rainy and chilly, but most of our winter birds and feeder visitors have returned. Put out a fresh batch of warm “crumble” this morning, and a couple dozen of my blues arrived within 5 minutes. Good to see everyone, again, and all of the kids are getting big. Both bluebirds and downy woodpeckers emerged from the roost box, this morning. And so it begins…

Bedford, New HampshireOctober 2, 2017 at 9:01 am #6029We might as well get it (cold/Winter) over so we can look forward to nesting season. Our winter birds, which are mainly juncos and white-crowned sparrows, have not arrived yet, as we are still having very nice fall weather here in Mid-Missouri. I do feed the suet (crumbles), which are homemade ,to my blues and put out the seed feeder for all others, mainly cardinals, blue-jays, finches, etc. Yes, the family of blues are here every day and are seeming to be well.
October 7, 2017 at 3:23 pm #6030Mine seemed to have disappeared for a few weeks and I resigned myself to seeing them in February but kept putting out mealworms. Well out of the blue at least 10 showed up! They actually were going in and out of their old birdhouse!
One sad thing was to see them chasing each other out of the feeder!
Guess they are scoping out sites for spring. It was an amazing sight. Hoping they know what to do in the hurricane that is visiting tonight…October 7, 2017 at 6:23 pm #6031Stay safe, Lisa!

Bedford, New HampshireOctober 8, 2017 at 6:58 pm #6032It turned out to be just a bit of wind and rain. A few limbs down and the birdhouse kind of sideways but otherwise all fine. My daughter who lives on the beach in Destin had a pretty rough night though!!!
October 23, 2017 at 9:52 pm #6037Hi Randy, Carol, Lisa, and everyone else:
My bluebirds have disappeared since mid September despite having mealworms out for them. The weather has been mild here. I’m hoping once it turns colder they’ll show up again. Usually that’s when I will see them. I’m gonna start mixing the mealworms with some Fruit, Nut & Berry birdseed mix https://www.amazon.com/F-M-Browns-Lovers-Blend-5-Pound/dp/B000HHQG0Ehe. The bluebirds loved this blend when I had it out last year for them. I hope everyone is enjoying Autumn. I can’t wait until next Spring/Summer.Regards!
October 23, 2017 at 9:57 pm #6038Sorry, I hope this is the correct URL for the Fruit, Nut, & Berry birdseed mix if anyone is interested. Bluebirds love it!
