Update…..After finding a male bluebird injured in the box by a HOSP……who shortly after died, I thought maybe I should take down the boxes and let them find nesting spots on their own. Thanks to everyone on this website for all the encouragement and help, this season has turned into being a very rewarding experience. I have fledged a total of 5 babies from 2 boxes. This week they have all returned to my yard, I see them flying around many times a day. My backyard box has second nest with 4 eggs and the front yard box has just completed the nest….maybe they will lay an egg today.

I’m so glad I didn’t give up……it is so fun to see them hanging out. Those babies are just so darn CUTE‼️ Happy birding.

Congrats, Judy – glad you kept on trying. My pair have built their 3rd nest and hope to have an egg by tomorrow maybe. P.S. It is getting kind of late in the season, so hope everything goes well, but only time will tell. I know it is going to be a hot spell for them, but they have built in a new box which we just put up, has a little bigger floor area than their last box, which I am sure was too small for 5 babies in the hot part of the season. I have my styrofoam heat shields ready & waiting, as are the spooker and wren guard.

Thanks Carol……I hope your new box works like a charm! It’s been crazy hot here too. Sounds like our nesters could be at the same stage. I thought I would have an egg today, but nothing as of 1:00pm. I was out doing some gardening and had to come in….thought I was going to melt. Good luck, let us know when that 1st egg shows up.

Carol…I think your 3rd nest had the 1st egg laid one day before mine. My 2nd nest has a total of 4 eggs. How many eggs did mama blue lay in the new enlarged box? Our nesters will be on the same time frames. Today was mega hot, but tomorrow is a cool down. Yay‼️

Judy, mama blue laid 5 eggs in this new box (nest #3). I believe this is the first year ALL nests have had 5 eggs laid in them – usually have at least 1 or 2 with just 4 (which I prefer with the smaller boxes). She has been incubating since Thursday I believe. Been miserably hot here, also, for the past 4-5 days but supposed to cool down into the 80’s after today. Hope my styrofoam heal shield does the trick – it usually does. Yes, out nesters will be close to same time frame.

Carol ….You are having a great bluebird season. Three nests with 5 eggs is wonderful. Mine have had 4 eggs or less. Plus they get started later because of our cold weather. So, I’m happy to get a second nest. Thanks for sharing all your bluebird knowledge with us newbies. I have learned a lot here. Happy birding.

Judy and Carol – good luck with your new box and eggs. It looks like a pretty good season for the bluebirds. Hope all goes well.
