Gilbertson box

Hi all,

I have a Gilbertson box with 5 eggs in it, yet I saw mom and dad checking out other boxes this morning. Is it possible the eggs aren’t viab.le?

Egg laying started day before the eclipse I believe, and I assume she has been incubating, they both eat mealworms but I try to not disturb the nest much.

Last year was unsuccessful so I haven’t posted in a year.

They do check out other boxes. They are always curious. It could be the case that the eggs are infertile but checking out boxes is normal behavior.

Thanks, that’s encouraging!

I’m hopeful, i’ve noticed the male this year fearlessly driving off larger birds like starlings.
