I actually tried to get my blues to leave and head for warmer weather (away from upstate New York). I took down all of my feeders and bird bath, in the early fall. But they remained here every day. I couldn’t take it anymore I put everything back out in December. They have survived the coldest weather I have seen since I’ve been hosting blues. Multiple days below zero and all dozen are here every day!
The bluebirds are back. Or more likely, I just hadn’t bee paying attention. The temperatures have warmed up enough the back porch is comfortable for sitting and observing. Just saw a male land on the fence.
This is about the time the birds started on their first nest last year. I’m guessing they will be building here within the next 7-10 days
Chris. Bluebirds stay here in NW Ohio all winter long. It’s probably colder where you are but it gets down into sub zero temps here quite a bit. From what I hear, feeding them won’t keep them here. They will migrate if they need to. Robins are here year round too. It’s crazy!!
