I now have 1 egg maybe 2 haven’t checked yet today. They are still coming and going so far.
Here is an old photo of my contraption. Though we don’t seem to have any snakes and I have no clue if this works or not, but we have had a possum that has come here and I also think it has been back but not sure, any way have had nothing in the bird house except the Blue Birds and the contraption is still there, it also has some re-barb sticking up in it and I think the pole we used may also have helped keep anything from trying to climb up that would try?

I have never seen anybody use a jug for this purpose and I don’t see how it would be effective. What you really need is a wobbling stovepipe baffle, mounted just under the box.

Alone, the pole would have to be really slick. It’s not good to grease an exposed pole because birds can come in contact with the grease. It’s rare but it can happen. And you know what grease does to feathers.

I’m not sure what the jug would protect against either. I’m definitely not trying to be critical at all! we are at similar latitudes and should have the same predators. It would definitely not help with snakes, possums, or raccoons…
