I’ve been away from this forum for several years. I took my nest boxes down for a while. I just put one up last week, and the bluebirds have claimed it and started building a nest. I want to put a sparrow spooner up after the first egg is laid, but I can’t find the one I used to use.

I want to purchase one instead of making one. I found where I thought I could purchase one but it says the page is not found. Can someone tell me where I can buy one please? I’m excited to have bluebirds using my box again.

Edited to say: I found it at sparrow traps.net. That’s where I was originally looking but clicked on the wrong thing to get to the purchase page. I would delete this post but can’t figure out how to do that.

Well, I am another “Carol” from Missouri – glad you are back on our forum. And glad you found your sparrow spooker – my DHubby makes mine so I wouldn’t know where to find them. They are a must in my opinion to keep the HOSP away and I think it does a good job. Right now I have a pair of HOSP trying to take over all four of my boxes – I DO NOT like them! My pair of bluebirds finally started scouting and they were looking inside one today. When I checked it out there was HOSP nest claims, as there was in one other of my nests. I removed it so maybe the blues will have a chance at a nest.
        Let the games begin!!!

Thanks for the welcome Carol! I had checked that I wanted email notifications if anyone replied, and I hadn’t gotten an email so I didn’t know there was a reply.

I’m sorry you’re having HOSP problems. I haven’t seen a HOSP yet but am anxious to know if the female bluebird has laid the first egg so I can put the Sparrow Spooker up. I posted a new post just today with a question about nest building.

There’s a very high nest in the box, and I can’t tell if there’s an egg. I took pictures this morning but couldn’t get a good one. I didn’t want to spend too much time looking in the box because the bluebirds were nearby.

How do I add a picture to my post?

Hope you found you spooker, Carol. You can gently put your hand inside the cup in the nest to feel for an egg. Just be careful not to disturb the nest. I don’t do the pictures any more – but David here does – check with him. Good luck.

Hi Carols. East Tenn. Carol – to post you photos here you need to first post them to a 3rd party site (I use imgur.com). It is very easy to set up a free account. When you view your photos in the account you will see a panel on the right of the screen with a list of codes that are used in various bulletin boards and forums. Click on the one labeled “BBCode” That will copy the link to your computer. Then you just prepare your post, paste the link in your post (it will look like this

and submit your post. When you view it after you have submitted it to the forum the photo will show up in your post. You will not see the photo in the “submit” box as you prepare your message.

Hope this helps. PM me if you have any problems or other questions.

Thank you for the tip about feeling for an egg, Carol. I’ll do that.
