Has this ever happened during your nesting experiences. This latest nest has been a strange one. The female laid the first egg on morning of June 24. The second egg was the late afternoon of Jun 25. There were no new eggs until either late Monday afternoon or Tuesday morning, Jun 26 or 27. She started to Brood on Jun 28. It looks like we will only have 3 this time around. I don’t believe that this is the same female bird with the male. Maybe they are trying to get back on schedule to have a third nest before the end of the season.

I’ve had a female lay all the eggs and wait a day or two before incubating. The delay always makes me nervous, thinking they’re going to abandon. But I think most of mine the eggs have been laid in succession. Congrats on a 3rd nesting!

Julie, this is only my second nesting this season – late start on the first one.

David, sounds like your nest is pretty much on target – I do believe I have had a mama miss laying for one day and then begin again, but this is pretty uncommon. Also had one not begin incubating for one day – but this was only in hot weather – and then she would do her duty. Bet your will be okay.
We have been in Dallas for the past 3 days, so I will be checking tomorrow to see if my 5 babies in nest #3 hatched, as they were due to hatch today, Sunday July 3.
Hope everyone has a good Independence Day!
