Well after obviously losing Daddy a few days ago mom is still frantically but efficiently keeping up with raising her 5 nine day old little ones. There was a strange male trying to catch her eye yesterday, but seems to have given up for now. I gave her some extra mealies this morning. I unfortunately had to be away from our house most of the day, but returned home in the evening to happily seeing things under control. Momma literally was trying to find bugs at 8:30pm, it was completely dark. I have a shipment of worms on the way but actually ran to the local pet store just now to grab some for the morning.
I will do everything I can to help her. She is a tough girl! Luckily I work from home as a dog groomer so I can keep a close eye on them all. Bless her little heart!May 3, 2016 at 10:06 pm #1723Yes, she is a brave & loving Mom – this is great news – please keep us informed.

I haven’t updated “single momma ” for a few days.
She amazes me! All 5 babies are looking good. Now there are 2 males that seem to be helping her guard the box. I’m pretty sure they are her sons from last year. They are both comfortable with my usual feeding arrangements and come right to my kitchen window. They don’t seem to be helping with feeding but hang out around the property. Thanks for all the comments and concerns.

May 18, 2016 at 10:29 pm #1960Momma still going strong! All 5 successfully fledged a week and are doing well.
Mom is now showing interest in her new beau, even letting him feed her! I figured they would turn around and do it again but a pair of Tree Swallows took their box! Hopefully they will go to another box on our property!
I took a ton of pictures of the 5 little ones, as I was a male Robin came and grabbed one of the little blues and tossed it on the ground! Terrible thing to see.
It is a rough world out there!May 18, 2016 at 11:28 pm #1963So glad all fledgelings & mom are all still doing well! Hope she & new mate nest with you again. Don’t have TRES where I live, but I know a lot of people on this site do. Hope all continues to go well!
