So, I have dees nesting in my yard for the first time every. I’ve advised people with dee issues in the past but have never actually had one here. (I did have a pair on the trail)
One question is what do you use to attach the guard to the box top? Thumb tacks and push pins are so hard to push in. Anything else anyone has used that’s easy, other than actually drilling small screws in? I think I’ll have to take the screw route.

I went to put in the wren guard but she hasn’t laid her egg for today. I don’t want to put the wren guard on until she does, otherwise I’ll blame the wren guard.
      Any experience with dees??

Tammy, I just use a corrugated box that I trim to come down to about mid-entrance level on the nestbox. I use a couple of drywall screws to hold it on top. If it gets soaked during a rain storm I just cut up another box. I have not had to use the guard for a couple of years now as my wood rectangle heat protector seems to be a deterrent as well.

Thanks, David. Thanks for the drywall screw comment. I have a couple of guards I made from a for sale yard sign. That way it doesn’t get soggy. She only laid 4 eggs. I thought for sure she would lay more. So far so good.
