Yes, martin landlords in the south have awful issues with rat snakes. They are so long and can reach all the way up over a wobbling baffle. They use garden netting under their wobbling baffle as Judy described. Or sometimes even above it but martin poles are a lot higher. If I can find directions I’ll copy them here.

I’m not fond of those that slant in at the bottom. Not enough nest space. And sometimes the nest falls out when you open it.

Thanks everyone!!!! I’ve not had HOSP problems for several years now so I got lax in putting up a spooker. And I have 8 boxes on my property and 14 on the trail. Too many to put spookers on but I think I need to start using them again at home.

He’s on FB now and is administrator of the group that I think is called Bluebird L. It used to be a forum and it switched to FB. I’m guessing he’s busy with that and it slowed down too much here.

On the purple Martin groups we recommend sprinkling a 1/4 tsp of 5% Sevin under the nests. This works on mites and I bet it would work for blowflies.

I really really dislike house wrens.

Hijack away. The 1 1/4 inch hole reducer did not work. I went back the next morning and put some mealworms out there and she was feeding some in the field and some in a tree way in the back. They all somehow got out. Weird, huh? Oh well. They were only a day away from being ready so I hope they fared well. I can’t let it bother me.
I haven’t had white eggs since that one female years ago that ended up breaking her jaw somehow.Tammy
Maybe move it somewhere else for now and see if that helps. Just trying to brainstorm.

That’s pretty unusual…orioles and woodpeckers. But I think it will calm down some because some of the species are migrating through. You can try bread. Some people swear by it.

I’m sorry this is happening. White millet is what I use too. Some people swear by white bread. And that doesn’t seem to attract the natives. You could try that. Crumble it up. Raising the platform off the ground might help with the white crowned. It seems odd that you caught a downy. I only caught birds like that when I put in Suet to catch Starlings. Let me know how it goes. The goldfinch like bird could have been a pine warbler? or maybe a female oriole? or pine siskin?

I just had the opposite. Two weeks ago I found a box way back on my property that had 3 or 4 EABL eggs. Looked yesterday and the EABL eggs are nowhere and in it’s place are two TRES eggs. I’ll look at the end and see if there are EABL eggs in the bottom of the nesting material. They were cold when I touched them so maybe something happened to the EABL parents.

Doing well. I have a 17 mos old granddaughter that is just such a delight and one more on the way. I’ll include a couple of photos later.
Tammy
Is that what you all are doing? Just continue to remove sticks? I don’t have a problem, but my friend does.
Tammy
Thanks. In all these years this is my third time that this has happened. It’s a nightmare. Once they know they can leave, you can not keep them in. Walking back there right now to watch and see if they are feeding them. I think another day will be sufficient.
Tammy
What are you using for bait? This does happen quite often to me too.
