Happy to welcome 3 new hatchlings from our second nesting of the season. 2 hatched yesterday, 1 this morning. Fledge on or about August 2nd. Hoping for a quick “turn around”, given that there are only three, this time around. I am thankful for the success, thus far, but I WOULD like to set up the new box, and get a third nesting this year. Chamber of Commerce weather, all season. Mid 70’s to low 80’s. Shaded box. We’ll see…

July 21, 2017 at 9:16 pm #5739Good going Randy, wonderful news. I hope you are successful with a third nesting. I have just about given up since the HOWR moved in and knows the entry holes in the BB boxes quite well, even though now that they settled in another box he does not seem to bother the other boxes or deposit sticks in them anymore. We shall see.

July 23, 2017 at 12:38 pm #5762Thanks, Connie and Dana! Two nestlings; one egg actually did not hatch. Calling this one “the country club nesting”, as my pair are enjoying the easy life of only two mouths to feed. They have settled into a relaxed routine, disrupted only by the owls and hawks. They used to get upset, but now they just keep an eye on them, while going about their business. Papa took a 45 minute nap, during the middle of the day, on a low branch of the beech tree. Seriously.
Lisa, I am extremely sensitive to the stress and concerns of all of you with hot weather concerns, but you are right, NH weather is pretty consistent: 6-months of winter, and 6-months of beautiful! :) Our next five days…http://i1243.photobucket.com/albums/gg554/nhhawk6/Weather_zps7qea93lo.png

Atlanta, GAJuly 23, 2017 at 7:56 pm #5776That would be great, Gin. Mid-February would be the perfect time to send one along, to ensure full-blown clinical depression, on my end… :)

Can do. Don’t be thinking I will forget.
