My season has begun. The female blue is building the nest. I noticed activity yesterday and a lot of activity this morning. Took the photo around noon. I only saw the male once. But mama is doing a great job. It looks like the nest should be finished in a day or so. :bluesinbox:

What is interesting about this build is the bird goes to my neighbor’s yard to collect the grass for the nest.I have about a 4′ high pile of clippings not 100 feet away/

David: Glad your mama BB has decided to start a nest. Mine are still going from box to box, but I did see a piece of dried grass in one of them last night and if it isn’t a piece that was just stuck to their feet or feathers, nest building might start soon. We are going to get pretty chilly again for a few days so that may halt any progress for a while. I agree strange your female would go to the neighbors yard for dried grass when it is so close by, but they do, do some very strange things. :Cough:

David, Bluebird season is here too. Your nest is further along than mine, but at least they have a start. I can’t post pictures, I have no idea how, but I enjoy seeing the ones that are posted.

David, thank you, but as of now I have no pictures to share. I thought I was going to have pictures like you of eggs, but this pair has different ideas and they are in control but if they ever decide to get down to business I will message you.
Congrats on the 4 eggs. Hope you found # 5.

Hi, David and Connie! Happy to hear things are off and running. We have had beautiful weather all Spring, here in NH, and it has actually been hot for the past week. My pair came back early, and built their nest right away. Egg three tomorrow morning by 0830. They seem as professional as ever. Could have sworn papa blue gave me a “whassup” head nod, earlier this Spring. :)

Well, I guess that we will only have 4 in the brood on this go around. The unpredictable wet, cold, and stormy weather have probably messed up the normal cycle of bluebird things for at least the first sitting.I spooked the female off the nest this afternoon when I took my grandson out to see the BB eggs. She seems to be letting me get closer to the box before she flies off the nest.

A new nesting pair for me, this year; I’m not certain what happened. My regular tenants had been around the box all Spring. This little lady is a youngster, and so is her mate. She’s cute, and has her own routine. Stays put when I open the box. There were three eggs yesterday, and late this afternoon, she was incubating and wouldn’t leave the box. I’m guessing she has four in the nest. We’ll see how they make out…

David, 4 eggs is great. My pair come back and check out the box but as of this morning no eggs. It is discouraging, but all in due time. It is still pretty chilly up this way so I guess they will know when the time is right.

Wow Lisa those birds are wasting no time, you are on the second nest and mine have not put an egg in the first one yet.

Randy, loved the picture of Mama sitting on the eggs. Amazing she does not fly but it is great for you and your camera. I think my female is a youngster also, not sure about the male.
How many eggs did she end up with?
