The baby bluebirds in my nestbox fledged Saturday, all except one. I found it dead in the nest. I examined it and the nest but didn’t see any signs of blowfly infestation. I’m guessing this unseasonably cool Spring may be to blame despite me keeping mealworms handy for the parents. I’m just glad the entire brood wasn’t lost and the other 4 babies made it. I cleaned out the nestbox and it’s ready for new tenants again.
Congrats from me too Dana. Too bad about the one you lost, but such great news to know 4 have successfully fledged. I am still on the waiting list for a pair to take up residence here.

Thanks you all! Yes the weather has been miserable cold and rainy but I’m thankful at least 4 of the babies made it. The bluebirds are already working on their 2nd nesting! So I’m excited!
Connie I hope you get some bluebirds real soon. Keeping my fingers crossed!
Thanks Dana, but still no luck. I think I have successfully gotten rid of my HOWR’s though.
Good luck on your second nesting. I am so happy for you.
