Yeah I hope she forgives me. I had knocked and didn’t see the male and cracked open the side door and saw her and closed it up quick and left.
She finished laying the egg too.
I’ll wait longer next time.
April 22, 2025 at 6:32 pm #27959Once she starts laying the eggs, the nest is hers and she will not likely abandon it. I usually put my spooker up after the first egg is laid.

Hey, yes I put it up today. 3 eggs so far.
I watched for a while and didn’t see them go in but I’m sure they are when I’m not watching.

I can confirm visually just a few moments ago, that she has accepted the sparrow spooker :)
here’s hoping for egg # 4

I thought they laid much earlier in the morning but lesson learned.
April 25, 2025 at 2:45 pm #280105 is generally the limit. I believe that Carol out in Missouri had 6 in one of her nest a year or so ago. More than 5 is rare.

Stafford, VAApril 30, 2025 at 10:45 am #28049Still holding strong at two eggs! She even tried to hide them a little from the wren by putting some grass over them.
May 2, 2025 at 11:59 pm #28106Holding the line at two eggs as of today. They have really stepped up. The wren sings constantly. I allow him to build his rats nest of sticks. He is a nightmare.

May 5, 2025 at 11:21 am #28113If you have house sparrows around I wouldn’t wait. They’ll go in and remove the eggs. If you’re not seeing them you’ll probably be fine until all the eggs are laid. It’s a risk you have to decide if you want to take. But trust me, they will get used to the sparrow spooker.
Normally they will not go in a nest after they’ve laid an egg for the day. They don’t want to draw predators to the nest. They’ll go in the next morning to lay another egg. So if you see them not going in it doesn’t mean anything. The telltale sign will be if you have an egg the next day. Check in the afternoon.Tammy
