Well, disaster. Went out today to check on the last two remaining eggs in the nest and they were gone.
Have a feeling the house wren took his revenge and pecked them open or removed them.
I was so mad I threw out his stupid nest in the trash.
Should I remove the bluebird nest now and take the other box the wren was using down?

May 8, 2025 at 3:27 pm #28123@BlueDaBaDee That’s terrible news.
If it were me, I would remove the nest from the box that the bluebirds had chosen, if that is what you are asking. Either another pair will use it, or the original pair will start anew.
I would also take down the other nest box so long as it is in sight of the first box.
What I don’t know is what to do about the wrens. I may be misremembering, but didn’t someone mention moving the nest box? I believe the idea was change the layout from the perspective of the wrens as you employ the wren guard anew.

Yeah, they’re all dead. So bummed. Blues probably removed the pecked eggs.
May 10, 2025 at 12:19 pm #28126I think that I mentioned the moving the box in another thread. I have done that in the past. I moved the box from my back yard to the front yard. The Blues found it and built another nest, which did survive the rest of the season. I kept it out of sight from the original position. I do have an acre and a half lot to work with and my house is centered in the lot.
