Well was expecting my chickadees to hatch yesterday or today but still nothing. I’ll be away all weekend, but hoping I come home to 5 babies!

I read incubation is 12-13 days but the dees start incubating with second to last egg so this is when I started counting. Anyone had dees that took longer to hatch?

Like anything else, incubation time is a variable thing. Maybe when you get back there will be hatchlings.

Sweet. I wish I had dees nes In here. What type of box are they in. I might move my PVC box that my TRES use up near my house …..maybe they’ll take to that.

I don’t really know what the different box types are called so here’s a picture. The floor is about 4″ wide and a little longer depth maybe 5″.

Here’s a picture of the babies from today. Not exactly sure how old since I was gone when they hatched but they are between 2-5 days.

Wow. The babies are awesome. Are they Carolina chickadees?

                    They’re Black-capped chickadees. There’s also a 5th baby in there somewhere.

They are really sweet. I didn’t know they nested in boxes. I have chickadees at my feeder in the winter, but I am actually pretty ignorant about their nesting habits.

They nest in boxes quite nicely, but can also excavate their own cavity.
