First post this season. We have not seen the bluebirds since late February. March and April have been cold and wet here in Northern Virginia. I put up the nestbox about 2 weeks ago but had no indications of birds. Went to Kansas for a funeral last week and came home yesterday to find a complete nest in the box. Today I have the first egg. What are people using to post photos?

April 23, 2018 at 7:44 pm #6240Beautiful egg, David – congrats! Well I still have no BB nest yet – I have my suspicion they maybe have built a nest at our of my neighbors, although I have been watching them and only see them go to their pine tree and they have no BB box, only Martin houses. Has anyone heard of the blues nesting in a martin house?

April 25, 2018 at 5:06 pm #6257Congratulations, David! Great to see your progress! Hope this marks the beginning of a terrific nesting season in VA! Keep us posted?!

Bedford, New HampshireApril 25, 2018 at 6:08 pm #6258Thanks to all. I hope your weather changes for the better soon so your BB’s can start their season.
Have 3 eggs now. I expect 5 as I believe that the pair using the box are still the ones from the past few years. I haven’t seen any of their past young ones on the yard or on the wires across the street but I have seen several other pairs in other neighbors yards.David

Stafford, VAApril 25, 2018 at 11:15 pm #6263The pictures are great David. We are still waiting here in Western PA for a nesting pair. Weather has been awful, snow rain, wind with a few nice days. I did see a pair today down the road from here, so hopefully they are going to check out my yard, and decide to spend the summer here.
Connie (PA)April 27, 2018 at 5:37 pm #6266We have our 5 eggs and the female was incubating them when I went out to check this afternoon to get this photo. I expect the hatching to be about May 11th.

Stafford, VAApril 30, 2018 at 6:53 pm #6304Went by the window this afternoon and saw my pair at the nest box. I just missed getting the female as she was entering the box to sit on the eggs. I took this one of the male as he sat and waited. I gave up on getting the female bird after 15 minutes. It is good to see them in the sun. We have at least 5 days of 70+ degree weather ahead.

Stafford, VAMay 1, 2018 at 3:56 pm #6310Such a beautiful sight to see David, both the 5 eggs and Papa bluebird guarding the home. Nothing here yet, but I never give up hope. We are getting lovely weather also, and it sure does feel good.
I am also waiting for the Hummingbirds and the Boston Orioles to appear. Can’t be long.
Keep up the good work with the pictures, they are great.
Connie (PA)May 1, 2018 at 7:40 pm #6311Thanks Connie. I hope that your Blue’s and other birds start their season in your yard soon. The weather in the east should start getting better this week. We have 70 and 80 degree days forecast thru next week with a couple of 90 degree days for good measure. Some of that ought to get up your way.

Stafford, VAMay 10, 2018 at 9:36 pm #6352Just catching up with this string… Looking good, David! Congratulations! Hatching any day, right? I noticed that you have neither a sparrow spooker, nor a wren guard. No need in your area? Truth be told, I have virtually no pressure from HOSPs or HOWRs, either. I put them up, just to be safe, and… to feel better about myself. :)
