Guys, I am in heaven today. Eent out this morning to pit the trash oit and heard a bliebird singing! He was on my box, in the trees…I lost my swallows to a predator recently.and was so upset, and now a bluebird shows up to save the day. never saw one in my immediate area before. So excited and hoping he returns!! Looks loke something de feathered the swallow box, could it have been him?

Phillyblues, I am so happy for you. I hope he returns with a female and they take up residence in your empty box, even though your location is not ideal for any bird. Predators can climb the tree and get to the eggs or babies. I do not want to burst your bubble but I learned the hard way that any device that allows a predator access can lead to heartbreak. In my case it was a raccoon 🦝, I know because of the foot prints. A few of the babies were gone, 2 were left, then Mama disappeared, I surmised she was injured and died.
Keep us informed on what transpires in the next few days.

Yup…..this sounds very promising‼️ One of my nesting pair of bluebirds took over a nest that swallows had been building, complete with white feathers. They removed the feathers and added their finishing touches. Bingo….instant nest. Good luck.

Hi Connie, it’s not on a tree. It’s on a conduit pole out in the open. I think my problem is I didn’t have a predator guard on the pole when the swallows were nesting. Of course I was planning to put it up as soon as the eggs hatched, but too late.

Philly Blues – great that you have a bluebird on your property – is it really your first sighting there? As far as the blue removing feather from the TRES box, as Gin says it is very likely, as any bird will do this if they want a box bad enough. Hope you have good luck with the blues (I am partial, as they are my favorite).

Phillyblues, that relieves me greatly to hear the box isn’t in a tree. I can’t wait to hear if you have BB’s. I know how exciting that feels. :flippingblue:

Yes. Very first sighting in my yard/any yard in the immediate area here. I have had success with them at a small park location very close by for a couple years. Mr Blue hasn’t been back today, unfortunately, so maybe he was just passing through. Hope he returns!

Ugggh they’re torturing me. I can hear one in the very far distance…but still haven’t shown up again.
