I have seen some of the babies from my first nest landing on the house and checking it out one even went inside. It now has 5 nestlings in a second nest. Mom and Dad have been feeding them frequently and today I saw one of the first nest babies show up with a worm and go into the box to feed the nestlings! I have never seen that before have any of you? Mom and Dad don’t seem too bothered.

AGP, How fun to be able to watch the babies help out. I have not observed that yet…..but I’m new at this (second season). I really enjoy seeing the young ones sit on top of the boxes. They did that for about a week, now I do not see them. Happy birding.

I think this is one of the most fun things we get to see. Well, sometimes we see it. During some seasons they do that here, other times not. So glad you got to witness this!

Atlanta, GAYes, I agree witnessing young ones after they fledge is quite an upper. I have had 2 from my first nest, 4 from the 2nd nest plus the parents all trying to get into the cage feeder at once. Poor mama, she always lets everyone eat first and by then, (after less than a minute) the worms are gone, and I am being pretty generous with the worms. But I have noticed the past day or two that the older siblings have not appeared quite as much – believe papa knows he will have to feed 5 more in about 17 days! She does get some worms and I have seen papa take her food to the box with 5 eggs.
Saw the first gen baby again tonight bringing worms and insectst to the nestlings. Just so amazing and cool!
