This is my first post on the ‘new’ forum. I had some difficulty getting signed up, but with a little help from you guys I got it done. I had a slow start this spring, but things are looking good now. Last year I put up a new box that I had built, using a combination of favorite features from existing plans. The EABB didn’t take to that box last year, but the TRSW had a successful hatch in it. The BB fledged four babies in mid-summer (2nd nesting last year) from another box. In early April this spring, I saw the beginnings of a BB nest in the newer box, although I rarely if ever saw them working in it. After checking it for several weeks, I thought that they surely had abandoned the nest. I believe the last check was around April 12 or 13, and then I was away for several days. When I got my first chance to check it on Apr 18, I had 5 eggs! I was elated but very apprehensive, since I had missed putting up the wren guard and the spooker early in the egg laying process. I immediately put those two items up over a two day period, and mom and pop accepted them in short order. They also got ahead of me on the hatch, because on one check I still had 5 eggs, and two or three days later (Apr 30) I had 5 babies! Yesterday, May 7, I removed the Wren guard and checked the box. Five little fuzzy heads and little beaks looked very healthy. Mom and Pop are feeding regularly, and all is good. I’m just counting down the days until fledge. Wish me luck.

Stafford, VAMay 10, 2016 at 4:36 pm #1840Do you have a new name here? I can’t figure out who you are (from the old forum). I am having a hard time catching the hatchings going on until late too! It’s so hard to know what to expect when I have not idea when they hatched.

May 10, 2016 at 7:24 pm #1849I posted on the old forum as NEWBLU, so when I registered for the new forum I typed that in as my ‘user name’, assuming that it would show up on my posts. I typed in ‘BZ–W Ctrl MO’ as my signature, thinking that it would be just that. But it didn’t come out that way, so what did I do wrong?

Beats me. Sorry. It’s been awhile since I signed on here.
Not that it really matters. We know who you are now!
