Last year after the blue bird’s first 2 broods the female died. He found another female quickly and they had a brood. This year saw 3 different successful fledges of 4 birds (I honestly think just 2 didn’t survive as I’ve seen them flying around all summer). Cleaning out the box after the third fledging I was surprised to see her build a nest and lay eggs for a fourth in the middle of August . I’ve never seen it. Then about a week into incubation the male blue bird goes missing. I was a little worried because I know how hard it will be. Now I see another male helping her. I’m fairly certain that it’s not the original male (can’t be 100%). The feathers look kinda funky so I’m maybe thinking it’s a male from their first brood?? I’m just happy she got some help and I can not worry so much.

Hey, Dave. Did that nest of eggs hatch? I’ve had a couple of August nests too over the years. By the middle of August the birds start looking a little scruffy so it may the same male but he’s looking a little rough because of molting. The male sometimes leaves a lot during incubation. There’s not much for him to do.
