This weekend i noticed both a male and a female bluebird coming to eat mealworms (a few weeks back a male had been killed.) Out of curiosity i checked a house in the corner of the yard, its by the street and not in view from house. I found several baby birds, i think they are bluebirds. i took a pic, i guess i need imgur or some app to make a url. Didnt use flash.
From the Sialis website pics these would be about 7 days old. All of my other boxes have chickadees or house wrens. Can’t wait for daylight tomorrow and see the adults feeding them to know for sure.
May 2, 2021 at 9:31 pm #8963Chris, I am anxiously awaiting your good news about the nestlings. Fingers crossed they are Bluebirds.
Connie (PA)May 2, 2021 at 10:12 pm #8966Looking forward to the news. Do you have any idea of the number of eggs in the nest?

Stafford, VAMay 3, 2021 at 12:52 pm #8969I counted 4 beaks in the house. I didnt see it in the egg laying stage, its an out of the way location i never thought they would use.
I bought waxworms (walmart out of live mealworms) and set them out, mom is grabbing like 4 at a time and flying off, i am confident its for baby blues. its been raining when i check the box, but mom and dad keep an eye on me.
i tried using an app called imgur but i couldnt upload my photo.

May 3, 2021 at 1:13 pm #8972Confirmed!
I put waxworms on front deck railing, watched mom pick them up. I ran across the yard and witnessed her going in the box to feed the babies. Hopefully the neighbors didn’t see me, i must be a certified bluebird nut!

May 3, 2021 at 9:41 pm #8981Chris. When you use imgur to post here use the “copy” button next to the “BBCode” item. That will take out all of that extraneous stuff in your post. the BBCode will appear like this as you type your post.
]https://i.imgur.com/xxXXyvR13DD.jpg[/img]) with an img in block parenthesis at the beginning. I had to take it out in order to show the code.
When you hit “submit” the photo will appear in your post.Nice photos by the way.

May 4, 2021 at 11:20 pm #8992Congrats, Chris – good luck on the fledging.
May 5, 2021 at 2:48 am #8995lol Chris there’s no shame in being a certified bluebird nut. I talk to the baby bluebirds when I open my nestbox to check on them. Anyone nearby might think I lost my mind. lol. I do not care. It is what it is. We do what we do because we love those “blues”.. meaning bluebirds.
May 5, 2021 at 9:27 pm #9005Wow Chris, that is exciting news. Loved the pictures, thanks for sending them.
Like Dana said there is no shame in loving our Blues, I whistle for mine to come to the feeder and talk to them as they land in the above the feeder.
ConnieMay 5, 2021 at 9:53 pm #9012All of the ladies are right, Chris. I whistle to mine also. What is really fun is to see them bring back their fledglings to the mealworm feeder when they have grown a bit. I had 9 plus mom & dad in the late summer and through the winter.
