I have a camera in my nest box and it would appear two of the three nestlings don’t have any eyes. They are now 13 days old and their heads look different from the one that does have eyes. They behave normally, but what happens when it comes time to fledge. Will the parents stop feeding them to starve to death? Do I just let them die? I know a blind BB can’t survive on their own. Has anyone had this happen before? What do I do?
Oh my gosh! I am so sorry!!!I have never heard of this. Do you have a wildlife rehabber near you? I would think that they should be euthanized by a veterinarian to avoid any suffering. This is so sad :(
I wonder if it would be allowed to keep them as pets in a cage and fed? If you were so inclined. I just don’t know. But that’s what I would probably end up doing, though not legal.
I was so saddened to read your news but feel so much better now that I know they will survive and be taken care of and will be a teaching tool for maybe some future BB lovers.
